Sisters Social Shindig

Sisters Social Shindig was one of the activities that was held in conjunction of the Islamic Awareness week which was held last week. I apologize for the late update.

It started at 630pm at the Black Cultural Centre, Vanderbilt University. Punctuality was always a problem and we had to start the program at 7pm because it was then that majority of the people who planned to attend, came. Majority of the people who attended was the Nashville Muslim community. I had the feeling of going to ICN, during tarawikh prayer, or maybe Eid, when all the Muslim community gather and meet each other. It was nice, the atmosphere was pleasing and the place that we got to use was splendid. Credits to the MSA crew who worked hard for it.

At 7pm, we prayed the Maghrib prayer, Nazirah leading. Then there was a speech given by Sister Tasneem regarding Sisterhood. I'm sorry I didn't took notes, I was taking photos. Then it was the ice breaking session when we get to know each other, it was a great experience, meeting other people and realising that we actually have met them before but haven't been properly introduced. There was Sister Amani, which was one of the sisters who attended the Intro to Islam Class by Dr Awadh under the Olive Tree Education Program. She actually works at the Biomedical Library and had just moved into Nashville, a couple of months ago. Only one non-Muslim came to the event, which was Veronica, I think she was Dayana's friend, because she seems to know Dayana, and she was very comfortable with us all. She's very friendly and nice too, asking politely and complimenting on the food that was cooked by Nadia, Shazia and their Mom.

Talking about food, the menu was : Beriyani rice with Zabihah Chicken, Samosa, some white souce(forgot to ask what's the name), home-baked cookies!( baked by Najlaa), some snacks and some drinks. We were very full that night and I really enjoyed the Samosa, which reminded me of home, of the Samosa kat Pasar Malam. Ah..teringat!

Then it was the skit, well, maybe a sketch, er..sketsa? It was about back-biting, which was one the topic that Sister Tasneem covered during her talk, in the beginning of the event.

Well, I guess I should introduce the actresses first : Mohsinah, Amearah, Dayana and Izzati plus Maryam as the director+ script writer. Nazirah and Azreena as 'the people who talked about back-biting in the end'.

The Skit was like this. Amearah, Mohsinah, Dayana and Izzati were friends. Amearah and Izzati were best friends, well they like to hang out together. Well, it was like after they met each other(all of them) they go their separate ways. Dayana and Mohsinah were talking bad about Amearah and Izzati; Dayana and Mohsinah were also talking bad about Amearah and Izzati. Basically they were talking bad about each other and Amearah was saying that Mohsinah was smoking pot last week.(which I learned was doing drugs) which was not the truth at all. Izzati went to ask Mohsinah if that were true, which obviously wasn't. Mohsinah, on the other hand replied by saying that Amearah also said some things that were bad about Dayana and Izzati. Finally, Mohsinah wanted to end her friendship with Amearah and wanted to get even with Amearah by doing something bad to her at the MSA meeting. Well, she did do something, she pulled the chair that Amearah was suppose to sit, which caused Amearah to fell down. Then Nazirah and Azreena came in and gave their speech.

*The End*

Perempuan ada 9 nafsu dan 1 akal, lelaki ada 1 nafsu dan 9 akal.
Which made me wonder.

I guess everything went well, alhamdulillah eventhough some of the lines were made up during the act and Ramy, Amearah's little brother came up on stage, tugging on Amearah. The act had to go on, and Yasmine saved the day by holding back Ramy.

this is Ramy by the way

After that, we prayed Isyak, and there was a group activity. We were divided into two groups, each members of the group had to remember each of their teammates and then the name of the teammates of the opposite group. After remembering, one from each group was picked, when everyone was closing their eyes. Including those who were picked. Each of the two who were picked had to turn around in the count of 3 and say the other person's name. The one who guessed wrong had to whisper to the other's ear a word so that the other could draw it on the board and the teams had to compete to guess the answer. The game lasted for quite some time, and I think both teams had even scores. I'm not really sure because I had to leave early that night because I had and obligation at 11pm. At 1030pm, I left.

All in all, The Sisters Social Shindig went well indeed. It was great, and I hope there's going to be another one coming up, well, I think if it's going to be another event of the Islamic Awareness Week, maybe next year, but that's the only time when majority of the muslim students could gather together and meet each other.

Sorry if the photos are blur. I don't really know what's wrong with my camera. Some of the photos here were also took by Azreena and Amalina. So, the credits should also be given to them. =)
